Tito vs. Hatton: La vida fuera del ring
En el verano eterno del trópico puertorriqueño, un ex boxeador cuyo otoño llegó antes de tiempo, aún sueña con la primavera de su carrera.
En otra esquina del planeta más lluviosa y oscura, un actual campeón piensa recuperar el lustro que perdió hace unos meses antea Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Se trata de Tito Trinidad y Ricky Hatton, respectivamente. Es que mientras Tito admite que no sabe cómo decirle adiós al deporte que lo hizo un ídolo en su tierra, Hatton dice tener una idea clara de lo que hará tan pronto guarde los guantes.
En entrevista con el diario inglés The Sun, Hatton celebró sus 30 años afirmando que se retirará del boxeo al cumplir los 31. Dice que sólo hará tres peleas más, incluyendo su combate de campeonato en las 140 libras ante Paulie Malignaggi el 22 de noviembre en Las Vegas.

Hatton tiene una promotora llamada Punch y espera dedicarse a ella cuando le diga adiós al ring. Insiste que seguirá el ejemplo de otro campeón, el peso completo y también británico Lennox Lewis, quien se retiró en la cima y no dio vuelta atrás.
Contrasta con el caso de Trinidad, quien se nota necesita la adulación de su fanaticada puertorriqueña. No ha podido encontrar una actividad que se compare o le llene ese vacío. Por eso lo vemos anunciar cada cierto tiempo que le gustaría volver a pelear.
Para machacar la metáfora: si el otoño le llegó en su pleno agosto, ¿cómo decirle a Tito que ya le cayó encima el invierno?
