"Creo que mañana no aparecerán titulares enorme porque yo diga que Manny no se acoplará bien aquí, ¿no?"
El capitan de los Yankees dijo también que no está preocupado por cómo el slugger dominicano se adaptaría al clubhouse del nuevo Yankee Stadium, si es que como se sospecha, firma finalmente con los ejecutivos del Bronx.
"No son muchos los peloteros que tienen dificultades para ocupar un sitio en nuestro equipo" agregó Jeter. "Hemos tenido algunas personalidades muy libres, como David Wells, Jason Giambi y Johnny Damon, quienes han resultado muy buenos Yankees"
Derek hablaba en un acto benéfico de Navidad, en pleno Manhattan, rodeado de niños pobres, a quienes les repartía juguetes. Siguió comentando...:
"Tenemos cantidad de diferentes personalidades en nuestro club. Lo único importante es lo que hacemos en el terreno, donde tratamos de lograr lo mejor para nuestros fanáticos y para el beisbol. Por eso son bienvenidos todos los que, al margen de sus personalidades, nos ayuden a ganar juegos".
Afirmó Jeter que no conoce bien a Ramírez, aparte de verlo jugar en su contra con los Medias Rojas, y a su lado en Juegos de Estrellas. "Pero creo que es un buen muchacho" remató.
A las firmas de CC Sabathia y A.J. Burnett, las calificó como "un gran trabajo realizado por la organización, ya que no se pueden encontrar dos abridores mejores. Eso fue lo que todos dijimos que necesitábamos. Y ya los tenemos. Ahora lo demás que nos llegue será un extra.
"Considero que tenemos una alineación muy buena, y no creo que anotar carreras haya sido difícil para nosotros en los últimos años. Hemos anotado muchas veces. Lo que no pudimos fue evitar las de los contrarios".
Jeter espera que el zurdo Andy Pettitte, con quien dice mantenerse en contacto, siga con los Yankees como la pieza que falta en la rotación de Sabathia, Burnett, Chien-Ming Wang y Joba Chamberlain.
"Desconozco los detalles de las discusiones sobre el nuevo contrato de Andy" agregó, "pero deseo verlo de regreso".
