Boras no pudo impedir que Óliver fuera a Clase A
Scott Boras, agente del lanzador zurdo mexicano, Óliver Pérez, aconsejó a su representado negarse a ir a las menores por cinco días. Por eso los Mets se vieron obligados a enviarlo al bullpén. Ocurrió cuando a comienzos de mayo el muchacho estaba en un slump tremendo.
Pero en seguida se descubrió que Óliver sufría de tendonitis en la rodilla derecha. Fue mandado a la lista de los lesionados, y después a las menores para rehabilitación, a lo que ya no podía oponerse Boras.

Y desde el tres de mayo está fuera de las Grandes Ligas. Podía regresar el 18, pero ya a fines de mayo estaba aun lanzando en la extensión del spring training, con el club clase A. de Port St Lucie.
En Nueva York hay procupación, ya que Pérez cobra 36 millones de dólares por tres temporadas, a partir de esta.
El cinco de mayo publiqué un blog titulado...:
"Se Niega Óliver a Bajar a las Menores"
Y el primer párrafo...:
"Óliver Pérez no aceptó que lo bajaran a las menores. Su agente Scott Boras, trató con el gerente-general de los Mets, Omar Minaya la situación, y llegaron al acuerdo de que el zurdo mexicano permanezca en el bullpén del equipo grande. El propio Óliver explicó a deportes.aollatino.com sus razones para preferir ser relevista aquí arriba que abridor en las sucursales.
'Aquí, en Nueva York, tengo a todos mis amigos, ellos me pueden ayudar' expresó el culichi aleccionado por el agente, 'mientras que en triple A o doble A no conozco a nadie".
El coach de pitcheo de los Mets, Dan Warthen, prefería trabajar personalmente con Óliver. Y Johán Santana, Carlos Delgado y Carlos Beltrán, muy allegados al mexicano, lo cooperarían en su recuperación.
Óliver podía oponerse a que lo enviaran a las menores, porque ha permanecido más de cinco años en las Mayores (ocho). Pero Minaya le dijo a Boras que si no mejora en las labores como relevista, deberán buscar una fórmula para enviarlo a algún otro equipo de la organización.
A lo que no se podía oponer Boras era a que, lesionado el zurdo, lo sacaran del róster, y organizaran su rehabilitación en los equipos de abajo.
Antes de comenzar esta temporada, y a última hora, como agente libre, Óliver Pérez firmó ese contrato con los Mets para tres años por 36 millones de dólares. Y la efectividad le subió a 9.97. En un juego frente a los Phillies, solamente pudo mantenerse en la lomita por 2.1 innings. Ha ganado una vez nada más y tiene par de derrotas en 21 innings de cinco apariciones.
El sustituto de Pérez, de 27 años, en el róster, es el japonés, novato en Grandes Ligas a los 40 años de edad, Ken Takahashi, quien también es zurdo.
El mejor año de Óliver Pérez en su carrera ha sido 2007, cuando terminó con 15-10, 3.56. Entonces estaba bajo la tutela del coach de pitcheo Rick Peterson, quien ya no trabaja con los Mets.
