México luchó, luchó y ganó
Los catrachos fueron al estadio Azteca a buscar un empate y renunciaron por completo al ataque, siempre tratando de destruír el juego mexicano, que tuvo varias ocasiones de gol. Sin embargo, falló en la definición.

La victoria permitió al conjunto mexicano llegar a 15 puntos y le queda el encuentro de local ante El Salvador y de visita ante Trinidad y Tobago, mientras la bicolor se quedó con 12 unidades.
El equipo mexicano inició agresivo y en tiro de esquina por izquierda, al minuto dos, el balón se paseó frente al arco catracho, porque ni el arquero Noel Valladares ni sus defensivos pudieron despejar.
Luego, los tricolores se adueñaron del balón, porque, como se esperaba, los catrachos se quedaron atrás a defender, a cerrar espacios y a cuidar muy bien a Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Giovani Dos Santos y Miguel Sabah.
Tanto terreno cedieron los hondureños que Salcido se sumó bien por banda izquierda y, al minuto 15, Jonny Magallón hizo potente disparo que salió apenas por la base del poste derecho de Noel Valladares, quien no pudo quedarse con la de gajos.
Después del grito de ¡México, México!, Blanco sacó un espectacular disparo de media distancia por el lado derecho con comba hacia adentro y Valladares voló cuan largo es, a su derecha, para hacer una gran desviada, al minuto 21.
Casi de inmediato hizo su aparición la lluvia, mientras Carlos Pavón seguía solo en el ataque de la Bicolor y al minuto 30, Efraín Juárez recibió balón por derecha y mandó centro al que Sabah llegó antes que Valladares, pero no le pudo dar dirección de gol y el esférico salió por primer palo.
Salcido volvió aparecer al minuto 32 con bonito centro que otra vez Sabah aprovechó para rematar de cabeza, ahora sí con dedicatoria de gol, pero Valladares se tendió muy bien para salvar su meta, mientras en la tribuna se escuchó el alarido.
Un incontenible Salcido le quebró la cintura a Danilo Turcios por la zona del tiro de esquina y luego mandó centro templado a un solitario Sabah por el área penal, el atacante mandó su remate con la cabeza hacia abajo y el balón salió por la base del primer poste, al minuto 39.
El arranque del segundo tiempo sirvió para ver a un Honduras ofensivo, pero sólo fue el primer minuto, porque otra vez los mexicanos se adueñaron del balón y el terreno, al tiempo que los de la Bicolor volvieron a su labor defensiva.
Hasta el minuto 58 logró la Bicolor un remate , aunque no fue a gol, por conducto de Carlos Pavón, y al 60 mandó Guardado centro que remató Sabah apenas por fuera de primer palo.
El tan anhelado grito de gol por fin se escuchó, pero el árbitro lo anuló por fuera de juego de Blanco, mientras Pablo Barrera ingresó por el defensa José Antonio Castro.
Ante la falta de gol, pese al dominio, la afición empezó a gritar sí se puede, sí se puede!" y Salcido, casi por el centro, realizó potente disparo de larga distancia que un defensa desvió y la de gajos apenas salió por la base del poste derecho del guardameta, al 67.
Para impulsar al equipo, el monstruo de más de cien mil gargantas volvió a gritar México, México y Juan Carlos Cacho, que apenas había entrado, aguantó en la lucha por un balón por alto y aunque cayó, el esférico quedó en el área, llegó Gio y también recibió falta.
Courtney Campbell marcó penal que Blanco cobró con maestría, potente e inalcanzable para Valladares para el gol al minuto 75, que todo mundo festejó con el grito de gooool.
Entonces se escuchó el "Cielito lindo", en clara demostración de alegría y apoyo al Tricolor, pero Julio César de León dio un gran susto con potente disparo pero en el fondo surgió muy bien la figura de Guillermo Ochoa con la desviada salvadora.
Con el silbatazo de Campbell se consumó la victoria del Tricolor que llegó a tres triunfos consecutivos en la eliminatoria y los jugadores se reunieron en el centro de la cancha para agradecer el apoyo del público y, al mismo tiempo, recibieron una gran ovación.
El árbitro jamaicano Courtney Campbell amonestó a Efraín Juárez, por México y a Danilo Turcios, Osmán Chávez y Amado Guevara, por Honduras.
