Mayorga, quien tiene 35 años pero parece tener 10 más, dijo en una conferencia de prensa el lunes en Miami que quiere salir de su contrato con Don King para meterse al MMA. Espera hacer su primera pelea en 2010.
"Soy un peleador por naturaleza, aprendí a pelear en las calles de Nicaragua, antes que comenzase dentro del boxeo", dijo Mayorga (28-7-1, 22 nocauts).
Muy bien. Pero el "Matador" se va a llevar tremenda sorpresa si entra al octagonal con la siguiente actitud:"Considero que es más fácil que el boxeo ya que puedes utilizar las piernas para golpear a tu rival y ponerte guantes más pequeños".
Ajá.
Los que hacen artes marciales mixtas llevan años integrando diversas disciplinas como el boxeo, el muay thai y la lucha. En lo que Mayorga saca una patada su rival le habrá metido siete codazos y lo someterá en el suelo. No hay nada "fácil" en el asunto.
Mayorga se une al ex jugador de la NFL, Herschel Walker, quien recién firmó un contrato a sus 47 años para pelear bajo la empresa Strikeforce.
Por el bien de ambos esperemos que lo tomen en serio. Pero está muy cuesta arriba integrarse a una disciplina tan intensa contra rivales que llevan años entrenando. Y si Mayorga se lo coge para payasear va a salir trasquilado.
