Se salva 'Julito' y volverá en junio
Chávez enfrentaba una pena de hasta ocho meses tras arrojar positivo a la sustancia furosemida tras su combate ante Troy Rowland el pasado 14 de noviembre. Los integrantes de la Comisión impusieron un castigo de siete meses, lo cual significa que 'Julito' podrá regresar al ring este junio, probablemente ante John Duddy.
"No pretendí herir a nadie", dijo Chávez. "Fue muy bochonorso para mí arrolar positivo. Sé que soy un modelo a seguir para los jóvenes, y tengo que hacerle honor al nombre de mi familia, y los herí".La investigación sobre el incidente divulgó que el boxeador fue hospitalizado 10 días antes de la pelea con deshidratación. Su médico personal, Dr. José Salazar, le dio el diurético furosemida luego de que Chávez recibiera líquidos por intravenosa en el hospital. Chávez estaba siete libras sobre el límite de 160 libras a ocho días de la pelea, y pesaba 163 libras dos días antes de subir al ring, según información reportada por el Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Chávez admitió que utilizó furosemida en dos ocasiones; a ocho días y luego a dos días antes de la pelea. También se dio a conocer que el doctor Salazar ya no forma parte de su equipo de trabajo.
Este diurético es de uso común en México, pero se encuentra englobada en un grupo de medicamentos prohibidos por parte de la Comisión Atlética de Nevada. Además de la suspensión de siete meses, retroactiva a la fecha de la violación, tendrá que pagar una multa de $10 mil.
La junta que estudió su caso votó 4-1 en su determinación. El único voto en contra fue de Pat Lundvall, quien quiería imponer una suspensión de ocho meses.
"Confiaba al 100 por ciento y completamente en mi doctor cuando me dio el diurético, y yo no sabía que era ilegal", aseveró Chávez. "Pero soy responsable por lo que meto en mi cuerpo, y ahora comprendo que puede ser nocivo para mí y nunca volverá a ocurrir".
La victoria de Chávez sobre Rowland fue entonces declarada una 'no decisión', por lo cual su récord permanece en 40-0-1 y 30 nocauts. Chávez piensa seguir batallando en las 160 libras.
