Da Torres su primera victoria al Liverpool
Fernando Torres se estrenó como goleador en la temporada y el Liverpool venció el domingo 1-0 al West Bromwich Albion para conseguir su primera victoria en la liga Premier inglesa, en la que el Manchester City perdió ante el Sunderland con un gol en los descuentos.Liverpool, que inició la fecha entre los tres últimos de la tabla con un punto, cantó victoria gracias al gol de Torres a los 65 minutos. El atacante español anotó con un remate de volea y ahora el Liverpool aparece a mitad de tabla. West Brom quedó con 10 hombres por la expulsión de James Morrison a cinco del final.
Torres fue titular tras recibir descanso en la victoria de su equipo contra el Trabzonspor el jueves, y que sirvió para avanzar a la fase de grupos de la Liga Europa. Torres estuvo activo en los ataques del Liverpool, pero falló varias ocasiones en el primer tiempo. Pero aprovechó un centro de Dirk Kuyt y definió con una volea de derecha.
Darren Bent convirtió un penal en el cuarto minuto de la prolongación para que el Sunderland derrotase 1-0 al City, que no pudo alcanzar a Arsenal y Manchester United con siete puntos.
El argentino Carlos Tevez se perdió un gol cantado para el City a los 12 minutos al rematar mal con el arco vacío. La primera derrota del City le dejó en el noveno lugar de la tabla.
Chelsea lidera el campeonato con el ideal de nueve unidades tras ganar sus tres partidos, el último el sábado ante el Stoke.
En otro partido, Robbie Blake anotó de tiro libre al final del partido y el Bolton, jugando en inferioridad numérica, rescató un empate 2-2 con el Birmingham.
Además, el Aston Villa venció 1-0 al Everton gracias al gol de Luke Young a los nueve minutos.
