Caroline Wozniacki es la tenista boxeadora
Por Eric NúñezNUEVA YORK.- Caroline Wozniacki domina tres idiomas, se desvive por la moda y le gusta el boxeo.
La danesa, que el viernes se medirá con la rusa Vera Zvonareva en las semifinales del Abierto de Estados Unidos, impresiona con su excepcional despliegue físico, una todo terreno que pelea puntos eternos.
Esto no sorprende al considerar sus genes: su madre fue integrante de la selección polaca de vóleibol y su padre fue futbolista profesional en Polonia y Dinamarca. Habla esos dos idiomas, además del inglés, no anda mal con el ruso y quiere aprender francés y español.
Pero también llama la atención su régimen de preparación. Wozniacki le tomó al gusto a la práctica del boxeo en su rutina.
"Es una forma diferente que tengo para entrenar. Es divertido", dijo la jugadora de 20 años que intenta repetir en la final del US Open por segundo año consecutivo. "Quería probar algo diferente, algo que no fuese lo usual".Además menciona que el tenis y el boxeo exigen aspectos físicos similares en los movimientos al describir la necesidad de tener buenos reflejos y velocidad en los movimientos de los brazos y piernas.
Lo que no nunca ha hecho es noquear a alguien. "Soy una chica buena, no hago ese tipo de cosas".
Wozniacki es la jugadora de moda en el torneo, captando la atención por el traje corto encima de un ajustado pantalón amarillo de la línea Adidas que le diseñó Stella McCartney. Cuando tuvo la noche libre el martes acudió a la inauguración de la Semana de la Moda en Nueva York.
Asimismo, el color amarillo con el que ha pintado sus uñas salta a la vista durante sus partidos.
"Es perfecto porque combina con mi traje, las pelotas, mi bolsa, con todo", comentó. "Tengo que estar a la moda".

Pero más allá de su atractivo físico, Wozniacki -quien quedó como primera cabeza de serie cuando Serena Williams no pudo presentarse por una lesión- tiene la ambición de volver a pelear por el título.
Aún no ha perdido un sólo set en el torneo y sus rivales se han referido a ella como un "frontón", entre ellas Maria Sharapova, por su capacidad de devolver todo.
Zvonareva es la séptima preclasificada y busca pasar a su segunda final seguida en un Grand Slam, luego que en julio perdió la de Wimbledon ante Serena.
Venus, la hermana mayor de Serena y una "viejita" a sus 30 años, disputará la otra semi femenina frente a la campeona vigente Kim Clijsters.
La belga Clijsters intenta convertirse en la primera mujer que revalida su cetro en Flushing Meadows desde que la misma Venus lo hizo en 2000-01.
Si se consagra después de nueve años, Venus haría algo notable: nadie ha ganado el título con un paréntesis de nueve años. Su campaña ha sido inesperada debido a que no había jugado en más de dos meses por una molestia en la rodilla y llevaba más de un año desde la última vez que alcanzó las semifinales de un Slam.
