MELBOURNE, Australia - El novato Sergio Pérez, de la escudería Sauber, va en camino de convertirse no sólo en el primer piloto mexicano de Fórmula Uno en los últimos 30 años sino a obtener los primeros puntos en su debut, el Gran Premio de Australia del domingo.Pérez terminó el viernes el primer día de prácticas con el octavo mejor tiempo - una fracción de segundo por debajo del alemán Michael Schumacher y del brasileño Felipe Massa, pero arriba de los veteranos Rubens Barrichello y Nico Rosberg.
También quedó siete sitios por encima de su más experimentado compañero de escudería, Kamui Kobayashi. "Creo que fue un buen día y espero que mañana sigamos igual" , dijo Pérez, quien salió de Guadalajara, su ciudad natal, a los 14 años en busca de una carrera como piloto de carros en Europa.

Pasaron 30 años para que un mexicano volviera a ocupar un asiento en la Fórmula Uno. Este lunes la escudería Sauber anunció que Sergio 'Checo' Pérez será el piloto titular la próxima temporada.Pérez es un fenómeno en la GP2, donde con 20 años ya conquistó lo más alto del podio en el mítico circuito de Mónaco. También tuvo buenas tardes en seriales de desarrollo como la BMW Alemana y la F3 Británica.
"Fórmula Uno es el sueño de cada piloto joven. Ahora es un sueño que está a punto de hacerse realidad. Aunque estoy consciente del gran reto y la responsabilidad que es esto, estoy feliz de aceptarlo y muy orgulloso de representar a mi País en la más importante categoría del automovilismo", dijo el piloto en emotiva conferencia de prensa.
Di Montezemolo afirmó que le dijo a sus pilotos que el equipo tiene preponderancia sobre las individualidades.La escudería italiana recibió una multa de 100.000 dólares tras una investigación de los comisarios por la maniobra del brasileño Massa, quien dejó que su compañero Alonso le desplazara para ganar la carrera.
Por medio de mensajes en código por radio, a 18 vueltas del final, Massa recibió instrucciones para dejar que el español Alonso le adelantase. Massa había estado al frente en 49 de las 67 vueltas.
La maniobra contraviene la reglamentación de la Fórmula Uno, que prohibe a los equipos dar órdenes a sus pilotos durante la carrera. Ferrari insistió que los pilotos actuaron de forma independientemente."No me interesa entrar en una discusión. Repetiré lo que siempre le digo a mis pilotos: el equipo es lo primero cuando conducen para Ferrari", dijo Di Montezemolo el lunes.
El Banco Santander, banco español, presentó la nueva campaña de seguros de la entidad y regaló a Fernando Alonso, piloto de la escudería Ferrari a la que patrocina, un seguro de vida y accidentes con una cobertura especial de sus dedos pulgares, por un importe de 10 millones de euros.
Los pulgares de Alonso son considerados un símbolo, ya que además de ser esenciales en la conducción de un monoplaza de Fórmula Uno, representan un signo de victoria y de que todo está bajo control y bien protegido, ¿frente a Schumi también?.
Ambos temas ponen en vilo la credibilidad y vigencia de la F1 y ahora estaría por verse quienes figurarían para escalar al podio.
