Fuera de Juan Manuel Márquez, no se me ocurre otro boxeador de los que se encuentran activos que haya tenido cinco rivales de primera línea en forma consecutiva, y si ustedes están pensando en Manny Pacquiao, cometen un error. Me refiero al británico Carl 'La Cobra' Froch, un peleador que milita en la categoría de peso súper welter y que en estos momentos compite en el Clásico de Boxeo Mundial de los Súper Seis.Froch ha protagonizado combates de antología que perdurarán en los anales del boxeo, al menos tres de sus últimos cuatro, han estado cargadas de acción y dramatismo. Su única derrota, la cual llegó en abril de este año contra Mikel Kessler, es discutible, pero de igual forma, su primera aparición en el Torneo de los Súper Seis, en donde venció a Andre Dirrell, también lo es y ambas se prestan para la polémica.
Un suertudo diría yo, porque no es tan buen boxeador. Aunque posee un gran corazón y una pegada demoledora, y las mismas se pusieron en manifiesto contra Jermain Taylor, a quien fulminó a unos segundos de terminar su combate, el cual, Froch estaba perdiendo de calle. Así mismo se vio contra Andre Dirrell, quien una vez que sintió su poder de puños, se puso a correr y a amarrar como un cobarde.
Por la mañana del domingo fui como de costumbre a RingTV.com a leer qué era lo que esas personas tenían que decir y Michael Rosenthal fue quien se encargó de la reseña de la pelea. Él fue tajante al decir que Jermain Taylor se debía retirar y ceder su lugar en el torneo de los súper seis. Y se comprende su punto de vista, el ex-campeón del mundo ha sufrido 3 nocauts en sus 5 últimas peleas, y ha perdido 4 de ellas, quizá nunca más vuelva a ser el mismo.
Bueno, el pasado sábado 20 de Octubre de los corrientes se celebraron 2 de los 3 pleitos correspondientes a la primera jornada del torneo, uno en Alemania y el otro en Inglaterra. En ambos el ganador fue el peleador local, quien se impuso sobre el visitante proveniente de los Estados Unidos.
Euros 2 Yankies 0 decía la portada del website de Ring Magazine, pero este torneo luce mucho más que una lucha de naciones, es una lucha por la supremacía de la división en donde a nadie le interesa el lugar de donde provengan los peleadores. Algo que faltaba ya en un presente boxístico en donde hay tantos campeones mundiales que la gente tiende a confundirse.
