El Congreso General de la FINA prohibió el uso de trajes de cuerpo entero y con material de poliuretano impermeable en las competencias oficiales. La polémica medida -propuesta por Estados Unidos- contó con el apoyo de 180 países.
La Federación había autorizado en 1999 el reemplazo de los taparrabos o slips de tela. Desde entonces, se rompieron más 100 récords mundiales, se expandió la industria de ropa deportiva y el marketing encontró un océano de aguas dulces.
Así es, usaron ese nuevo traje de baño que permite tener una mayor soltura bajo el agua, sin provocar que el nadador tenga más peso gracias al nuevo tejido ultra ligero y delgado como papel, que cuenta con un laminado de aluminio de PU para asegurar que el atleta y el traje se mantengan más secos y ligeros... ¡sorprendente!
